Step-by-Step Guide
- Navigation Bar
The dark blue bar across the top of the screen is the navigation bar. It provides access to the navigation menu, displays your current page as well as your favorites, and provides quick access to the timer and timesheets, your notifications, and your personal menu. Your personal menu provides you with the ability to view PTO and sick time, access to your profile, account management menu items if you are an administrator, and your logout link.
The following descriptions provide a quick overview of the Navigation Bar features.
a. Navigation Menu - The navigation menu is a nine-square icon just to the right of the SQUAVA logo. Clicking this will display the mega menu that displays the pages you have permission to access. To learn more about the navigation menu, click here.
b. Current Page - Your current page is displayed, in blue, just to the right of the navigation menu icon. For example, the expense page is active in the image below.
c. Favorite Pages - All of the pages you have selected as favorites will be displayed across to the top of the navigation bar. If you have selected more pages than can be accommodated in the free space in the bar, you will see a ‘more’ icon (three vertical dots) that will give you access to the remaining pages not able to fit in the bar. To learn more about customizing your navigation bar with favorites, click here.
d. Timer - The timer icon is near the far right of the navigation bar. This icon provides you quick access to the timer and timesheets. This is helpful when starting or ending your work when you want to record your labor hours accurately.
Note: The timer icon will blink when the timer is running.
e. Notifications - The notification or bell icon, located just to the right of the timer, lets you know if anything needs your attention. For example, you will see a notification if a timesheet has been returned to you for edit or correction. Currently you will only see notifications for returned timesheets, returned expenses, or PTO / sick time warnings or messages. Often, a link will be included with the message for quick access to the item needing attention.
f. Personal Menu - Located at the top right corner of your screen is your personal menu. Here, you could see your PTO/sick hours balance, edit your profile, access account management and billing information (if you’re an account administrator), or log out from your account. See the image below. - Navigation Menu
The menu icon located at the top left corner, just to the right of the SQUAVA logo, gives you access to SQUAVA’s mega menu. This menu will display links to all the pages you have permission to access. Pages are organized into groups under general titles like ‘Clients & Projects’, ‘Time & Expense’, and ‘Financial’.
Clicking the menu icon will open the menu. To close the menu, click the ‘X’ in the top right corner, the navigation bar, or outside the menu.
Note: If you don’t see a page you expect to have access to, this is likely because you don’t have permission to access that page. Speak with a supervisor to discuss or request access to the particular page.
The hollow star you see to the right of the page link when you hover over it gives you the option to make the page a favorite. Clicking that star will make that page a favorite and will permanently display a blue star next to the link. A blue star is an indicator that you have made the page a favorite. Favorite pages are displayed in the open space in the middle of the navigation bar.

You can customize your navigation bar with links to the pages you most often use in SQUAVA. All of the pages you star as a favorite from the mega menu will be displayed on the navigation bar. If you have selected more pages than can be accommodated in the free space in the bar, you will see a ‘more’ icon (three vertical dots) that will give you access to the remaining pages not able to fit in the bar.
To customize your navigation bar, go to the navigation menu located near the top left corner of the screen. This will display the mega menu with links to the pages you have permission to access.
Hovering over a page link will display a hollow star to the right of the page link. Clicking that star will make that page a favorite and will permanently display a blue star next to the link. This favorite menu item will also now be displayed in the open space in the middle of the navigation bar at the top of the page.
These custom links will be arranged by the order in which you selected them as favorites. You can easily rearrange the order of the custom links by deselecting all of the blue stars, or just those necessary, and then select them again in the order you want the links displayed from left to right in the navigation bar. A tool-tip that displays when you hover over a star will guide you in this process as well.
As a reminder, the navigation bar can only display about five or six custom page links in the space provided. However, if you have selected more pages than can be accommodated in the free space in the bar, you will see a ‘more’ icon (three vertical dots) that will give you access to the remaining pages not able to fit in the bar as shown in the image below.
